Kawal Kaur
Founder & Director
I am Kawal Kaur, an early years education leader with over 20 years of experience in the UK education sector. My journey into early years education began with the birth of my son—a moment that opened my eyes to the incredible importance of a child’s earliest experiences. What started as a personal curiosity quickly grew into a lifelong passion, and there’s been no looking back since.
In 2012, I founded Expanding Horizons Consultancy with a simple but powerful mission: to support early years professionals in creating environments where children can truly thrive. What began as a small initiative has grown into a trusted source of training, mentoring, and quality improvement support for nurseries and schools across the UK. The name reflects my belief that when we invest in the adults who care for young children, we expand the horizons of every child they touch.
Sulekha Malik
IT & Support
I am Sulekha, an Experienced QA and Embedded Systems Testing professional with 12+ years of expertise across embedded controllers, web, and mobile platforms. Specialized in BACnet protocol testing, embedded HVAC/BAS systems, and test automation using Cypress, Selenium, and BDD frameworks. Proven track record of building automation frameworks from scratch, ensuring compliance with BTL certification standards, and leading QA efforts in Agile environments. Adept at cross-functional collaboration, mentoring teams, and driving end-to-end quality assurance for scalable software and embedded products.
Yasmin Mukadam
Co-Founder & Quality Assurer
I am Yasmin, Co-Founder of Expanding Horizons Training Academy, a hub for professional learning for the early year's workforce.I have 20+ years professional experience working in early years settings, providing consultancy services, teaching, and developing early years programmes at university and college level.
As an author, teacher, lecturer and professional in early years education and health, I am driven by a belief in empowering early years educators to develop their knowledge and skills to enrich childhoods and nurture the whole child. My areas of interest include neuroscience, emotional literacy, self-regulation, yoga, and mindfulness.
Sonali Kulkarni
Associate
I am Sonali, an experienced educator and leader with over 20 years in the field of Early Years education, higher education lecturing, and professional mentoring. I am currently managing an Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ early year setting and lecturing on the Foundation Degree programmes in partnership with Kingston University. With a strong background in curriculum development, leadership, and academic coaching, I am passionate about empowering practitioners through inclusive, reflective, and research-informed teaching. I bring a wealth of knowledge, warmth, and insight in my role as a tutor and mentor, supporting learners to thrive and lead with confidence in their own practice.
Marion Sawyer
Associate
I am Marion with over 30 years experience working in a variety of settings teaching Early Years students aged from 14 years upwards. I have been a programme manager for Health and Social Care and childcare courses as well as an Internal Moderator, Internal Verifier, assessor and in recent years, as a consultant for an outstanding early years course.
I specialise in working with students from a variety of backgrounds. I have an awareness of mental health issues as well as students with particular difficulties such as dyslexia, autism or other needs. I am passionate about each individual being able to access the knowledge and skills required to fulfill their potential to work in early years education.
